As you know, the most important work of the Republican Party is accomplished at the local level. Our ideas and initiatives are submitted to the state and national organizations and become a part of our national platform. Our individual county membership is the only place our membership is actually recorded. It has a direct effect on elections. From letter-writing to cooking a casserole or helping someone get to the polls, involved members make a difference in every election.
The Republicans "grass-roots" plan that enabled us to elect President Bush in 2000 and 2004 has fallen into the hands of the opposition. They are already using it to their advantage in this year's congressional elections. That means we have to work even harder this year. Mid-term elections are always difficult for the party in control of Congress. In Wisconsin, this means we have an opportunity to make inroads that will pay dividends later. Don't expect any help from the media in doing so.
Republicans are different. We are the party of ideas, of individual initiative and personal responsibility. We come in many stripes but we're all proud of America and are willing to sacrifice so that others may know the kind of freedom that is so uniquely American. From Abraham Lincoln to George W. Bush, weve been blessed with strong Republican leaders. Today, we are in a war with an enemy who is often invisible but no less deadly. Thank God we have leadership up to the challenge. We hope you'll find something you can do to help at the local level. "Many hands make a great task lighter". Your support and volunteer spirit wins elections.
